Okay - Just watched the 1st 3 episodes, and here is mho .
Light and frothy, funny, played for laughs - quick cuts back and forth between characters.
The woman straddling Bette in the car is Nadia her outrageously flirtacious asst. It's very silly. Bette will go on to tell her afterwards that it will not happen again.
The show is fun - so far very little angst, which is a relief.
Papi is being played as a type. Over the top - she is arresting, but so far it's kind of a goof, and they have a funny imagined show down between Papi and Shane - again, for laughs.
Then there are alot of subplots starting -
Shane and Shay.
Mia plays Jenny's obsession with a critic who betrayed with confident big wide strokes - I felt she was terrific, and I think people might see her differently this year.
Bette who is once again in charge - with a boss who's coming out, & is still upset about Tina.
Tina who is trying to blend her friends into her new life, and doesn't look too good in it herself. The party she has as a "mixer" is diasterous.
Alice who's going out with Bette's boss, and seems up for anything.
Helena who's learning to live without money,
Kit with her abortion & boyfriend, and of course, last and certasinly least
Max,a wooden, clueless, teenage nerd who looks dazed throughout, dating his boss's daughter
Sure it's cheesy in places, and sometimes they're laughing at themselves - but it is also a really charming way to get back into these characters lives before the meaty stories really start - All the girls shine.
I think they're wonderful.
My only complaint, since I'm so glad to see them back, is that they are so overly made up, with heavy eye shadow and lashes & so often dressed in evening wear that I find myself wondering if they're going to a Ball or something - after the show!

Bette and Jodie (Marlee Matlin) have a nice relationship. Lots in common, etc. Tina and Bette become good parents to Angelica. Tina and Bette become friends. Tina is single the entire season. Jodie isn't comfortable with the amount of time Bette spends with Tina and Angelica. As the season progresses, Jodie starts to pressure Bette for a commitment. She asks Bette to move in with her. Bette says no. Jodie issues an ultimatum. The relationship ends.
And in response to Bette and Tina's relationship being over the intern replied: "Not quite yet."
Cybill Shepherd's ET Interview

From www.thelwordonline.com provided by Britt, who was an extra for the day
On July 5th and 6th, The L Word was filming at the PNE/Playland basketball courts and skateboard park (Hastings St), in Vancouver.
The scene they filmed at the basketball courts was quite lengthy. In as best as I can remember, the scene went as follows...
Some girls (and "Papi") are hanging out at the basketball court getting warmed up. Then "Papi" looks up and sees the main L Word girls coming. Jenny, Shane, Alice, Bette, Kit and Helena are seen walking towards the basketball courts wearing ridiculously dorky basketball outfits. They all have jerseys on with their last names on the back. Behind them, Moira/Max and Shane's little brother Shay walk towards the skateboard park.
The L Word girls face off with "Papi's" crew. Before they begin the game, Tina jogs up to them, and Helena gives her a kiss on the cheek. Bette seems very sarcastic and tense toward Tina, and the tension is finally averted by "Papi" who yells something to the effect of "You can play on our team because we don't care who you fuck!" They begin to play basketball, with Shane and "Papi" facing off for the jump-off at the start of the game.
Some scenes during the game:
Bette fouls Tina repeatedly, making Tina angry, and then Bette steals the ball and runs down the court and proceeds to make a lay-up and score for the L-Word girls team.
Alice is checked, and can't pass the ball to anyone except Jenny, who happens to be drinking coffee. When Alice passes Jenny the ball, Jenny spills her coffee and the other team (Papi's crew) grabs the ball and proceeds to score.
Helena is fouled by one of "Papi's" crew and gets two foul shots. She misses her first shot, and for the second shot Alice tells her to shoot backwards. Helena shoots backwards and scores.
The L Word girls team is repeatedly scored upon by "Papi's" crew. The L Word girls are not very good at basketball (they suck) and miss scoring repeatedly.
Near the end of the game, the girls are all down at the end of the basketball court near the skateboard park. Moira/Max suddenly runs up to the fence, yelling for Shane. It turns out Shay has fallen off his skateboard. Shane takes off to help her brother, telling the others "I've got it, I've got it." so they don't all follow. Moira/Max fills the girls in as Shane leaves.
Apparently, Shay's fall will leave him with a broken arm. The basketball game is over.
"Papi" is first brought to the attention of the L Word girls through Alice's chart website. As said before in previous seasons, when some has slept with many, many girls (like Shane) they create their own constellations/galaxies on the online Chart. This "Papi" on Alice's chart has somehow managed to sleep with more people than Shane has. Thus, the girls decide to go and search for this mysterious "Papi" girl whom no one rally knows about. Confusion is said to arise about who "Papi" really is, since the name "Papi" means "Daddy"/"Father" in Spanish or something. I guess the basketball game is one of the ways that Shane and this "Papi" compete with each other. Subsequent competitions may arise in other season 4 episodes.
In total, the whole basketball scene is said to be approx. 10 minutes in one of the episodes. Rumors on the set that said indicated that the basketball scene may appear in episode 2 or 4 of the fourth season.
Rose Rollins cast as former Marine Tasha Williams
The character of Tasha Williams, a former marine and best friend of new regular character Papi (Janina Gavankar), Rose Rollins joins the cast from episode 5 of Season 4.
From audition scripts circulating the net, Tasha appears to have a crush on Alice.
Shane the New Face of Hugo Boss?
Reports have emerged from Vancouver, where shooting for Season 4 of The L Word is currently taking place, that Shane may be the new face of Hugo Boss.
Check out Shane in the Hugo Boss ad!
Witnesses saw the shooting of a scene where Shane and Alice get out of a limo at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Granville Mall. Speculations abound that the girls are attending a hollywood premiere of the movie Roll the Dice. Outside the theatre were also many extras dressed up like Shane.
Karina Lombard to Reprise her Role as Marina
Rumour has it that Karina Lombard will appear in 2 episodes in Season 4 including the opening episode. Marina apparently comes back and steals Jenny's girlfriend.
Marlee Matlin Joins The L Word Cast
Oscar®-winner Marlee Matlin will become a regular on The L Word portraying a fiery artist who catches the attention of Jennifer Beals' character Bette Porter.
Janina Gavankar is the latest recruit to Season 4 of The L Word, set to play Papi, a smokin' hot Latino who challenges Shane. Unlike Shane, Papi is competitive, gregarious, loud, bossy and boastful.
Janina Gavankar is an American of (Eastern) Indian and Dutch descent who describes herself as "so American".
An alumni of the University of Illinois at Chicago, Janina Gavankar's credits include Barbershop, Barbershop 2: Back In Business and the cult horror flick Cup Of My Blood. She is a classically trained pianist and excelled in voice and orchestral percussion before recording an album for Universal Records as part of the singing group Endera.
She is now a solo artist. You can listen to her music on her official website janinamusic.com.
Cybill Shepherd Joins The L Word Cast
Showtime recently announced acclaimed actress Cybill Shepherd (Moonlighting, Cybill, The Last Picture Show, The Heartbreak Kid, Texasville, Taxi Driver, At Long Last Love) will join the series. Cybill Shepherd will portray a married woman with two grown children who suddenly begins questioning her sexuality. She will appear in 11 episodes, starring as an Executive Vice Chancellor of the fictional California University and boss to Jennifer Beals’ character.
Kristanna Loken Joins The L Word Cast
Kristanna Loken joins The L Word for 10 episodes in Season 4. She will play a single mother who meets Shane at a PTA meeting.
You are, no doubt, thinking what we're thinking... PTA? Keep thinking. We also have no idea why Shane is there.
Kristanna is best known for her role in Terminator 3 and for making out with Pink.
Speaking about her sexuality, Kristanna says "I have dated and have had sex with men and women and have to say that the relationships I have had with certain women have been much more fulfilling, sexually and emotionally, than of those with certain men. I connect with an aura, with energy. And if the person with whom I connect happens to be a female, that's just the way it is. That's what makes my wheels turn."
Kristanna also played the title character in this year's BloodRayne, penned by none other than The L Word's Guinevere Turner, also of Go Fish fame.
In BloodRayne Kristanna plays a half-human, half-vampire woman on a mission to avenge the rape of her mother by her father, and is invited to join the Brimstone Society in fighting vampires. Check out the BloodRayne Official Website.
